On the plains of hesitation
bleach the bones of countless millions who,
at the dawn of decision,
sat down to wait,
and waiting died

Yes...we see you..............

Voltaire Road

South London twin,
almost prim,
decants its contents, cosmopolitan.

Grumbles

WAIT SIGNAL!

Spanish cars,
haul off the Ludgates,
locos snort, snarl, fume,
wagons groan protest,

South London moans.

WAIT SIGNAL!

Hissing Eurotar slithers past,
its grinning pleasure seekers
safely interned
from the cloying, grubby heat
of Voltaire Road,
the graffiti state .

South London simmers ,

WAIT!

The First Flu Of Winter

The grip in which the first flu of winter had caught Idiot B was vice like. The infection had settled into his throat securing a crampon hold on soft flesh ensuring further inflammation with every step.

It felt like a rope ladder had been slung onto the back of his tongue providing with ease, a route of access to the contagion and its temporary home.

Hunched and wheezing, cursing those decades of cigarette glamour, he wrapped swaddling protection around the ailment, quaffed another healing paracetemol libation, and awaited the hot cold sweats which was surely on its way, as surely as this winter gloom would continue into the New Year….

They think it’s all over.............................

Struggling through a London winter at work…..considering the sunshine future…., Idiot B was on the ropes.

Seconds were out……and offering a white fluffy towel of capitulation.

A back pain which he supposed was partly due years of poor posture owed to the weight of the world on his stooping shoulders, and more recently , a middle aged intro to weight training was causing discomfort which simply accentuated his realisation that a move on was urgently required, before it was too late.

It was a genuine wish that a complete step change was going to be of benefit mentally as well as physically.

But trading old problems for new? The sand between his toes and the occasional mosquito with an intrusive proboscis compared to …..the mundane and the mendacious of, if not home counties life, certainly work.
